Lansdowne

This cantonment town in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttrakhand is home to some of the most breathtaking and picturesque views. With its pleasant weather and pristine surroundings, Lansdowne is the perfect place to unwind. The place is infused with a lot of history as it was founded as a military garrison under the British Raj, and the Garhwali Museum traces the history of the Garhwal Rifles regiment, which still trains in the town. You can also pay a visit to St. John’s Church and Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple in town. For adventure-seekers, a hike or short trek up the “Tip n Top” hill-point and Bhim Pakora will be a thrilling experience.

Nainital

Nestled in the Kumaon Hills, Nainital is a hill station built on the banks of the unique, eye-shaped Naini Lake. Famously called the “City of Lakes”, this beautiful town offers a tranquil break from busy city life. The place has got plenty of sights that you could see, like the Eco Cave Gardens, Pangot and Kilbury Bird Sanctuary, High Altitude Zoo and Tiffin Top. Also, there are several hiking trails and trekking points in and around it: the Nainital-Betalghat trek, Nainital-Kilbury trek and Snow View trek are some of the popular hiking trails. The most well-know place here is, of course, the Mall Road, which is a shopaholic’s paradise. The road has many street shops, shopping centers, hotels and restaurants.

Neemrana

Located amid the brown and green hills of the Aravallis and enriched with the grandeur of history, Neemrana is the perfect destination for an idyllic weekend getaway. Just a two-hour drive from the national capital, this place will give you a peek into India’s historic and its royal past with the 15th century marvel that is the Neemrana Fort Palace. Take a camel ride around the fortress to explore the lush green surroundings. For a dose of adventure, try the zip-lining in the Fort Centre. For food lovers, Neemrana’s Japanese zone offers many restaurants that serve authentic Japanese cuisine.

Alwar

Just 166km away from Delhi, this city in Rajasthan is the right kind of getaway for those planning a one-day return trip. This city has a very deep historical significance, which is still visible in the Rajputana forts which are a major tourist attraction here. Places like the Bhangarh Fort and the Sariska National Park are also very close to Alwar city, but you need an entire day to explore them.

Sohna

It is situated on the highway from Gurugram to Alwar. This makes it easily accessible and a popular weekend destination. Visit Sohna to enjoy the hot water springs located at the ancient Shiva temple. This place is surrounded by a hilly terrain since it lies on the foothills of the Aravallis. Some of the main attractions include the Damdama Lake. known for boating and the picturesque environs.The Sohna Lake and the hot water springs here are believed to have sulphur—a known cure for skin diseases of various kinds. These have been modernised with a sauna and spa complex and include steam bath facilities too. Also located near Sohna town, are the ruins of the Bharatpur Hill Fort, which is a perfect setting for an evening picnic.

Vrindavan

Some 182km away from Delhi, a holy city that resounds with a thousand tales of Lord Krishna’s early years, Vrindavan is quite popular among pilgrims, not just from India but from the world over. Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, the town echoes with the liveliness of its many temples.

Bharatpur

In four hours flat, you can reach the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary or the Keoladeo National Park by road. The entrance might not appeal to you initially because of its abandoned look and feel, but the interiors of the jungle will leave you mesmerised. Explore the sanctuary on a rickshaw ride worth Rs 70. The rickshaw-puller doubles as your guide. Early morning visits are highly recommended. Also, stay at the Bharatpur Forest Lodge for an incredible experience.

Parwanoo

Though it’s a six-hour drive from Delhi to Parwanoo, a road trip to the foothills of Himalayas is always worth it. A fascinating journey of 270km along the wide roads will lead you to the lush green hills and scenic views of Parwanoo. Take a cable car ride at the Timber Trail Resort to the top of the hill and dine at their restaurant offering an ecstatic view of the valley. For food lovers, there are many dhabas en route, boasting local delicacies ranging from fast food to elaborate meals.
