J&K Governor orders audit of security hubs

Following intelligence inputs that the Jammu region may see a major militant strike, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra has ordered a security audit of all civil and Army installations and has asked for a detailed report. A high-level meeting was held at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu on Friday in which the Governor was briefed about the measures taken to thwart any strikes in the state after the Pathankot attack.
Sources told The Sunday Guardian that there is an intelligence alert about a militant strike on some Army or security installation in the Jammu region, especially around 26 January. Militants have struck many times in the recent past in the Jammu region by breaching the International Border or have identified new routes to enter the border state. The intelligence alert is especially for the Kathua district of Jammu as there are chances of a breach in this sensitive area. After taking a feedback from the top brass of security and intelligence officials, the Governor ordered a complete security audit of all vital civil and Army establishments across the state to ensure that they are safeguarded. A Raj Bhawan spokesman told the media that the Governor stressed the need for cohesive action to enforce better vigil on the frontiers to maintain internal security and ensure the safety of sensitive establishments and installations. He has asked the security grid of the state to deal with the issues of border areas on an urgent basis.
After the meeting, the Governor decided to establish a multidisciplinary team of intelligence agencies, Army, Air Force, paramilitary forces and J&K police officers who would undertake a complete security audit of all vital establishments and installations in the state and submit their report to the Raj Bhawan by Thursday. He has also asked for more review meetings periodically to combat threats and maintain internal security. The high-level meeting was attended by state Chief Secretary B.R. Sharma, Lt Gen D.S. Hooda, GOC-in-charge Northern Command, Dr S.K. Bhagat, Special DG CRPF, and state Director General of Police Rajendra Kumar.
