A 21,000 sq m mural has been created in Norway, but you might need an aeroplane to see it. What claims to be the “world’s largest outdoor mural” has been painted on the roofs of industrial buildings by French artists Ella & Pitr to mark the beginning of the street art festival Nuart in Norway. Titled Lilith and Olaf, the Norway mural includes a comparatively small portrait of Norway’s ancient King Olaf I painted in colour next to the sprawling black and white female character Lilith wearing tracksuit shorts and a tank top.
Clive Owen makes Broadway debut
British actor Clive Owen will soon swap Hollywood for the stage in Old Times, making his Broadway debut in a revival of Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter’s 1971 play. The Children of Men and Closer actor, who has London theatre credits to his name, will appear alongside fellow Britons Eve Best, who previously starred in Pinter’s The Homecoming, and True Detective actress Kelly Reilly. In the play, Owen’s character Deeley and his wife Kate receive a visit from her longtime friend Anna, an encounter where memories are soon viewed as threats amidst building emotions. “It’s a really stunning piece of writing and three great parts,” Owen said at a photo call for the play.
Tattoo artist inks over abuse scars
It might be difficult to completely get rid of the emotional scars left by domestic abuse, but one woman is helping blot out the physical ones. Brazilian tattooist Flavia Carvalho has started a project called A Pele da Flor (The Skin of the Flower), which sees her inking over victims’ scars free of charge, covering reminders of knife, bullet and more injuries with designs of their choosing. The project began when a woman attacked with a switchblade approached Carvalho to cover up her abdominal scar.Taubman’s collection up for auction soon
The art collection of late American mall developer A. Alfred Taubman, who served prison time in an auction house price-fixing scandal, is being put up for sale in what was described last week as the most valuable private collection ever offered at auction. Sotheby’s said the collection, to be sold in November in New York, is valued at more than $500 million. The 500 works stretch from antiquity to contemporary art and include paintings by Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Amedeo Modigliani. Taubman, a billionaire who founded the shopping mall business Taubman Centers Inc, died in April at the age of 91. In 1983, he bought Sotheby’s and became its chairman.
