Eternal God is our dwelling place

opinionEternal God is our dwelling place
We know our lives are brief; like a flower that briefly blooms and withers. Yet we find it difficult to believe this truth. Why do mortal people live as if they are immortal? The reason is simple; God our creator is eternal.
David writes, “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God (Psalm 90:2).”
God’s existence had no beginning and will have no end. He always was, always is and always will be. Our eternal Creator created us in His image and likeness (Gen. 1:27).
The wise king Solomon stated, “He has also set eternity in the hearts of man (Ecc. 3:11).”
However, we, fallen creatures love waywardness and “are darkened in understanding and separated ourselves from the life of God (Eph. 4:18).” And so God placed us under the judgment of our bodies returning to dust (Gen. 3:19; Ps. 90:3). The shortened life span is regarded as the judgment of God brought on by human waywardness.
Since God is eternal and our earthly lives are transient; the wise will choose to live in relationship with God, our eternal dwelling place.
The One who has been our “dwelling place throughout all generations (Ps. 90:1).” But how can fallen people enjoy relationship with a holy God?
The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead brings good news! God has taken initiative to reconcile us to Himself and bring us back into a loving personal relationship with Him. The eternal God gives us eternal life as a gift of His glorious grace. As David prays, “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days (Ps. 90:14).” We can choose to enjoy eternity with our eternal God by making Him our dwelling place.
