Backless gowns, blouses, tops and tunics are enormously popular among celebrities these days. From Bollywood to Hollywood, many actresses have been seen donning backless gowns, courtsey of some top designers. Here is a red-carpet roundup of this trend by Swati Singh.

Charlize Theron in a Gucci gown, at the Academy Awards 2004, showing off her. The actress looked ravishing and was also given the Best Actress award for her role as a serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster that same year.

Sienna Miller arrived at the BAFTA Awards 2008 at the Royal Opera House in London in this stunning black gown by Dior that became the talk of the town within the fashion world for quite some time post the event.

Taylor Swift in a Kaufman Franco’s glittery blue gown at the  Grammys 2010, was a big hit when she was seen carrying this off-the-shoulder dress with an interesting neckline and peep-hole. She paired her backless attire with a dazzling pair of earrings.

Young and hot Mallika Sherawat looked the perfect Bollywood diva in this backless skin-colour gown by Ali Medhavi at Cannes in 2012. Her flawless body was beautifully complemented by this dress. The backless gown was paired with a bun and winged eye look which became quite the trend later that year.

Deepika Padukone in a turquoise backless gown at the Star Screen Awards in 2012  was appreciated by the fashion critics. The long sleeves, boat neck, pretty ruffles and the backless design, by Gauri and Nainika, was perfect for her  body shape. She looked gorgeous with her smoky eyes, a side fishtail braid and emerald drop earrings.
