Bunty Aur Babli (2005)

Rani Mukherjee’s look in her movie Bunty Aur Babli harked a new trend for women’s fashion in India.  It was a modern twist to the traditional attire. Colourful patiala salwars and collared short kurtis became a huge hit as it was a mix of designer wear and street style, which ruled that season. To complete the Babli look, women also paired embroidered cloth bags called jholas.

Jab We Met (2007)

Kareena Kapoor sizzled the audience on the silver screen with her sassy look in her movie Jab We Met. She came up with a new trend, pairing T-shirt with patiala salwar, which was embraced by her young admirers instantly. Not only this, harem pants also came into limelight. The audience was bowled over with this style as it was comfortable and at the same time versatile, not to forget its simplicity quotient. She also accessorised her jeans with jhumkas, anklets with colourful scarves in the film. 

Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani (2013)

Deepika’s transformation from a sweet, nerdy girl in her floral dresses to denim skirts and sexy looks in her cropped blouses and gorgeous chiffon sarees was an inspiration for pre-wedding outfits for the rest of the season. Her cobalt-blue sari with champagne-gold sequins and a stylish black sheer blouse can never go wrong in getting all the attention in the room. This attire won the hearts of many young girls who copied Padukone’s wardrobe instantly.

Khoobsurat (2014)

From the mismatched pair of socks to dhoti pants, fashion icon Sonam Kapoor wore different and trendy outfits in her movie Khoobsurat. Soon, it became a trendsetter for people some of whom only watched this film for its outfits. Block prints and unique motifs jackets, dhoti pants, aztec printed skirts, scarf in bright colours and check pants created a big fashion statement for the people who love a mix of western touch in Indian dresses.

Piku (2015)

Bollywood diva DeepikaPadukone again set a trend for ethnic lovers with her film Piku. It was a fusion where modern and traditional elements were beautifully blended to give a unique look. Long kurtis paired with palazzos and a big bindi became all the rage. Beautiful tunics with elaborate scarves worn by Padukone with a pair of glasses added more grace to her look in the film.
