Fashion design is a game that is best played as a team sport

In the world of fashion design, collaborative effort always pays off. Good designers wouldn’t go about making a dress without the input of their peers. The designer’s creativity goes to an altogether different level when they collaborate with international designers. There is also a huge acceptance of Indian designer luxury brands, which is leading to more collaborative projects. Ultimately, collaborations are about getting the chemistry right. It takes the designer out of his comfort zone, creating the impression that the artist’s creativity knows no bounds. At the same time, it is also important that the end product be somehow consistent and include each party’s brand signature.

The fashion industry is changing every year. Collaborations have earned a certain permanency in the marketing strategy of some of the world’s biggest fashion industries. The market and the audience of the designers have also changed over the years. Now, people want to spend more on their dresses. So, the target audience for these designers has grown to a good extent. If you look at the Non-Residential Indian who wants to dress up in Indian style for a special occasion, they will look for designers who can offer those dresses which have an Indian touch to it.

Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal has recently collaborated with “Confluence by Crystals from Swarovski” and has said, “Vividly expressing art as an emotion that is omnipresent in every aspect of life, the collection is a culmination of thoughts that inspire an artist to love, hope, thrive and create. It is a tribute to the incredible artisans and craftsmen of our country, together with the beauty of wildlife, birds and flowers that define the Indian decorative arts.”

The trend has been changing today on how people dress up. If we look at today’s weddings, the collaboration is a bit tough, the reason being that International designers quietly understand Indian culture and heavy decked-up dresses as compared to light western outfits that involve minimal make-up.

The fashion industry is changing every year. Collaborations have earned a certain permanency in the marketing strategy of some of the world’s biggest fashion industries. The market and the audience of the designers have also changed  over the years.

Recently, Sabyasachi Mukherjee has collaborated with Christian Louboutin shoes and handbags. Mukherjee has created an immersive experience and the showcase was complemented by a striking collection of women’s and men’s shoes and bags, created in collaboration with French designer Christian Louboutin. The beautiful amalgamation–Christian Louboutin and Sabyasachi’s design team–between Paris and India tell an engaging narrative stamped with their signature styles and infused with captivating high glamour.

Collaboration between Indian and International designers has made the mass-market fashion line develop designs with the mix of ethnics and modern culture. Indian designers like Ritu Kumar has redefined age-old Indian traditions in the contemporary era, creating a style that is both rich in Indian aesthetics and modern sophistication. Even if we look at Indian designer Masaba Gupta, her designs are a combination of traditional Indian aesthetics and modern flair typified by lightweight fabrics brightened by vibrant, quirky prints. On the other hand, if we look at Manish Malhotra’s designs, they are mostly redefining and modernizing mainstream fashion.

Designer Gautam Gupta also gave his opinion on collaboration with International designers, saying, “Idea behind international collaborations is to create synergy behind aesthetics and maintaining the satisfaction of both existing as well as prospective consumers. Sometimes designers can get too predictable with their sensibilities especially when they are quite seasoned ones. So, with collaborations you get a scope of playing around with aesthetics.”

He added, “Another reason for Indian designers being more noticeable in international fashion is due to the core competencies in handmade fabrics and textures. Global fashion looks for these rich art and crafts.”

Simplicity and elegance at its best, the comeback of Indian weaves with international touch in this season is breathtaking. Less is more is the latest trend of the season. The embellishments have become subtle yet detailed and the silhouettes are simple. This season, with many more collaboration of Indian designers and International designers, would see many off-beat colors. This season is also about blending of trends and styles like ditching the traditional look with off- beat modern dresses and opting for jackets, capes, shirts or even funky knits.
