With the onset of a new year, opportunities arise while much becomes susceptible to change. But one pressing question remains: what to wear and what not to wear? Let’s see what designers have to say about the fashion trends which will take centre stage in 2017. By Swati Singh

Ritu Kumar

Ritu Kumar who is a big name in the fashion industry says, 2017’s biggest trends will be a continued revival of handicrafts and textiles within the Indian subcontinent, a modern play on traditional silhouettes, bright and tropical prints, and sheer fabrics. Kumar leads the fashion industry with her traditional yet modern designs. Colours like bright yellow and red will gain attention but pale blue, beige  will also have their moment.

Tarun Tahiliani

According to the designer it is easy to wear separates which have become a trend. They can be paired with different silhouettes like dhoti pants, lungi skirts, tunics, kurtas and asymmetrical hemlines for a fresh and youthful simplicity. It’s  subtle and chic and you can mix and match, and not just once. It’s the look, when you buy this skirt, that pair of pants, mix it and individualize it, so you dont have a single look by one designer. It’s not about trends, it’s about individuality.

Purvi Doshi

Purvi Doshi, the designer said that the coming season will be about sustainable fashion, handwoven cotton & khadi, eco-friendly, organic clothing. In the world of ‘fast fashion’ there is a positive reaction to organic clothing, and increasingly customers are willing to buy organic pieces as long as they are interesting in design and are functional. So she feels that the “Easy to wear” and “comfort” will be fashion buzzwords in 2017.

Samant Chauhan

Samant Chauhan feels that the look for this New Year is capes for sure. As Cape dresses have been making a splash lately, Capes suit all body types, petite or plus size and will also help keep you warm. To give a bright look pair up your white with a plunge of red and silhouettes on each side. To add glitter and boldness to your look make sure your makeup is Glossy. With that keep the hair tight and sleek and also an oversized clutch. Complete this look with black boots.

Hemant&Nandita

The designer duo says that Ruffles and frills — the wearable volume — is the key trend that will define the summer of 2017. Their SS’17 collection “Romance Reinvented” features long slits and ruffle detailing in summer fabrics like poplin, crisp cotton and organza. Bigger or smaller ruffles placed at shoulders, hem of the skirts, blouse yokes or sleeves in feminine silhouettes make the volume wearable fresh for the 2017 Summer.
