DPS Srinagar plays down Geelani controversy

NewsDPS Srinagar plays down Geelani controversy

Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar played down the controversy surrounding the appearance of Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s granddaughter for her Class 10 term examinations organised by the school. DPS held its exams while other schools in the valley were asked to remain shut by the separatists.  An authority of DPS, Srinagar said that the media is singling out the “little child and the school”. “Our school is not the only one that held the exam. And our school is also not the only one to hold exams in a stadium. 572 children had appeared for the exams.” The official denied that extra security cover was given to the school while it held exams  over a period of six days at the indoor stadium in Srinagar. DPS Srinagar was unable to hold its term end exams in July this year due to the protests following the killing of militant Burhan Wani. However, the school decided to hold exams for Classes 9 and 10 students, one of whom is also Geelani’s granddaughter.
