Musicscapes is ananthology of 250 photographs by Shobha Deepak Singh that features some of the greatest Indian classical musicians doing what they do best — performing.
These images, as would be obvious to all, are products of the photographer’s firsthand exposure not just to the performers showcased here, but also to the finer nuances of Indian classical music as an artform.
Some of the stalwarts, who find pride of pride of place in Singh’s, Musicscapes include Abdul Rashid Khan, Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ali Akbar Khan, Amjad Ali Khan, Anoushka Shankar, Ashwini Bhide, Ayaan Ali Khan, Balasaheb Poonchwale, Bhimsen Joshi, Bhuvanesh Komkali, Bismillah Khan, Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Chhannulal Mishra, Gangubai Hangal, Girija Devi and Zakir Hussain among others.
The photographs span almost quarter of a century, and put together they add up to a unique study and a historical survey of Indian classical music, a subject that has long been neglected by our scholars and academics.
