Figures in Time and Space, a show of drawings, watercolors, lithographs and woodcuts, is currently on display at the Art Heritage Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi.
The artworks represented here are part of the exhibition and are composed by a variety of artists between the 1980s and 2000s. The artists hail from different art schools and a variety of cultural backgrounds. The figures represented here are delineated in stillness or motion, so the artists have tended to leave out realistic details, favouring instead forms created through mass and volume, achieved through the interplay of light and shade.
One has to understand that graphic arts are no less exacting than mediums like oils or acrylics. In fact, major artists like Picasso, Matisse, Degas — and closer home, M.F. Husain, Tyeb Mehta, Akbar Padamsee and Ram Kumar — have all explored these various mediums of print making as a challenge, in order to extend their range of expression.
Figures in Time and Space is on till 10 August
