Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken got its name from a picturesque Portuguese town, Pretoria, South Africa where it first began journey with its first establishment in 1993.  Growing both geographically and in terms of cuisine, Barcelos with its exclusive menu takes us back to old-fashioned traditions and ideals of South Africa.

Ensuring just the right balance between the customary, healthy home-style dishes and the dynamic taste of the contemporary world, the restaurant’s philosophy hinges on an authentic way of serving healthy and spicy flame grilled chicken, as was prepared by the Portuguese chefs in the past.

My evening started with a welcome drink “Kiwi Cooler” which offered me an instant respite from Delhi’s sultry weather. Liquid Nitrogen was poured on the mocktail that added immediate drama to our table. With a strong sweet and sour taste, the drink got me all the more excited for what was about to come on my plate next.

Came up next was the restaurant’s specialty “Grilled Chicken Drumsticks” that was cooked in the especially exported Peri Peri Sauce from its place of origin, South Africa.  The Drumsticks grilled with almost perfection were crisp outside and juicy and soft inside. Following was the star of the evening, Barcelos’ Black Burger. The burger bun made with coffee beans and black olives was softer than the regular buns.

The black burger had grilled chicken with Peri Peri sauce and tossed vegetables. Offering a huge variety the restaurant also has a Red Burger in its menu for all the mutton lovers. Sumptuous as it was, another delicacy that we were treated with was Quarter chicken with French fries. The dish was again prepared in Peri Peri sauce and was predominantly had tangy and a bit of spicy flavor. The presentation was bang on and the platter was served to us with Salsa sauce.

I ended my rendezvous at Barcelos with a lip smacking dessert, “Double Layer Chocolate”. The sweet treat was a combination of chocolate pastry with vanilla ice cream. It was flooded with chocolate but was hard on outside.

The restaurant gives you all the right feels of South Africa’s authentic culture, history and tradition, along with offering an unperturbed and convenient fine dine experience.

Recurrently undergoing transformation the restaurant endeavors to remain a key performer in the casual dining in the restaurant industry.

With earthly and rustic interiors, the restaurant compliments its food and ambience ensuring mastered dishes and drinks on every platter to enjoy the magic of Barcelos.
