If along with good food, the setting of a place also matters to you, then you may want to check out the newly launched restaurant “Lazeez Affaire” at Connaught Place. This restaurant will make your basic dinner outing a wholesome experience. Be it food, crockery, ambience, the restaurant lays out sophisticated arrangement for its visitors.

Guardian 20 decided to check out the place on a late Saturday evening. As we stepped on its premises, only one table apart from ours was occupied but as the evening progressed the restaurant witnessed the arrival of a number of people. If one is looking to dine here, especially during a weekend, it is a good idea to reserve a table in advance to avoid the queue.

Along with the food, the décor of the place is attractive too. A golden chandelier and traditional paintings, present in the restaurant give a warm ambience to the outlet. Also, the food here is served in quirky and colourful crockery.

Lazeez Affaire offers a rich variety in North Indian and Mughlai cuisine. Also, it features a bar menu. The soups here go with the name of shorbas. To try something new, we decided to order  “Dal Shorba”. This lentil soup gave a rich aroma of cumin but on actual consumption one could understand that the chef has meticulously made use of a lot of whole spices in the dish.

Moving on to starters, Lazeez Affaire presents a number of varieties both in vegetarian and non-vegetarian section. “Pista Malai Broccoli”—broccoli in pista sauce, “Akhrot Paneer Seekh”—cottage cheese served with walnut, are the new and innovative dishes present in the menu. The non-vegetarian starters are the usual ones like “Galouti Kabab”, “Fish Tikka”, “Amritsari Fried Fish” and so on, which are also generally available at many outlets. To have the best of everything, one could order a complete non-vegetarian platter which is an assortment of many meat kebabs and chicken tikkas.

The best part about the restaurant is that per item ordered comes with a good quantity. The case was same with “Subz Biryani”. The typical and flavourful basmati rice cooked with curd and lots of vegetables was served in large quantity. This aromatic dish is highly recommended here.

“Mirchi Makai Ka Salan” is also a delicious item in vegetarian section. In this dish, mirch [green chilies] and makai [corn] are cooked in peanut and sesame gravy. Due to the presence of peanut and sesame, the gravy appeared rich and had a certain texture to the dish.

The restaurant does justice to the non-vegetarian section also. Classics like “Mutton Rogen Josh”, “Goan Jinga Curry” and “Prawn Tawa Masala” in this segment stand out.

One should not leave without having innovative desserts the restaurant offers. Try out the royal “Butter Gulkand Brioche”— a dish which uses cinnamon. The rabri present in the dish is cinnamon spiced with the flavour of Gulkand. Good food, good ambience. What else one needs on a weekend?
