KCR readies the red carpet for Ivanka Trump

NewsKCR readies the red carpet for Ivanka Trump

US President Donald Trump’s daughter, and senior adviser Ivanka Trump will receive a red carpet welcome from Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) when she visits Hyderabad for the three-day Global Entrepreneurs Summit (GES)-2017 starting on 28 November. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his senior ministers, too, will be present on the first day of the summit.

Invanka Trump may be the first daughter and an adviser to Trump, but the scale of preparations for her made by the CM, suggests that her visit will be treated on par with that of the US President. The state government has set up a compact cell in the Industries and Investments Department to look after the event, but it will grow into a huge wing by next month.

Enormous security measures, beautification of the city and elaborate arrangements for Ivanka Trump’s stay will be coordinated personally by the CM and his son KTR, who looks after the IT and Industries and Investment Promotion Departments. Ivanka Trump is expected to be put up at the Taj Falaknuma hotel near the historic Charminar in the city. The GES will be held at HICC Ground, Madhapur, on the outskirts of the city.

KCR has thanked PM Modi for allowing GES to be held in Hyderabad. He even mentioned Ivanka Trump’s visit in his Independence Day speech at the Golconda Fort on 15 August. The CM is planning to showcase Telangana’s culture and hospitality before the global delegates and draw investments for the state. KCR is likely to seek assistance of around Rs 100 crore from the Centre for conducting the event.

Ivanka Trump, who will turn 36 this October, is considered to be a key member of President Trump’s inner circle. She will head a 600-member business delegation from the US, while another 2,400 delegates from around 80 countries will turn up for the eighth edition of GES. Ivanka Trump will deliver a keynote address on the theme of the summit, “Women First: Prosperity for All”.

The GES, launched at the initiative of President Trump’s predecessor, President Barack Obama in 2010, is being held in India after PM Modi offered to host it in this country, during his meeting with President Trump in the US on 27 July. The PM invited Ivanka Trump to visit India to participate in GES. The organisers of the GES selected Hyderabad as the venue after considering Bangalore and Delhi.

The first edition of the GES was held in Washington D.C., in the US, but the next five were hosted in Turkey, UAE, Morocco, Malaysia and Kenya. The 2016 edition of the event was held in the Silicon Valley in the US. There was some uncertainty over GES being continued after Trump became President, but he decided to go ahead with it.

Sources in the Telangana Industrial Investment Promotion Department told The Sunday Guardian that as the overall focus of GES is to encourage free flow of capital and improve the ease of doing business, the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry will unveil measures to that extent. Even the Telangana government will like to showcase its liberal industrial policies before global entrepreneurs.

Currently, the Telangana police is looking at the security aspects of Ivanka Trump’s stay, as Taj Falaknuma is located in the Old City of Hyderabad and the event venue—the HICC Ground—is close to Tolichowk, from where several terror suspects were picked up recently. Central and US security agencies, too, will look after Ivanka Trump’s security.
