BJP Legislators meet over government formation in J&K

NewsBJP Legislators meet over government formation in J&K

BJP legislators met in Jammu on Friday to discuss government formation in J&K. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, and Ram Madhav, the BJP general secretary in charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs, also attended the meeting.

Singh and Madhav arrived in Jammu earlier in the day and drove straight to the state guesthouse which was the venue scheduled for the meeting.  Informed sources said that the legislators and senior leaders at the meeting were apprised by Madhav about the recent developments, including the Tuesday meeting between PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The BJP leadership reiterated that no fresh conditions (by the PDP) had been accepted and the alliance with the PDP will continue on the basis of the agenda of alliance signed (earlier) by the two parties,” a BJP source said.

Jitendra Singh who represents the Kathua-Udhampur Lok Sabha seat for the BJP, informed that a BJP-PDP joint coordination committee will meet in the coming days to discuss the modalities vis-a-vis the formation of the state government, to be led by Mehbooba Mufti as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Governor N.N. Vohra has called the state presidents of the two parties to hold separate meetings with him at Raj Bhawan on Friday. Jammu and Kashmir has been under Governor’s Rule since January after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away.
