NewsMass tribal wedding to be held in Gujarat
The NGO, India Eye International Human Rights Observer, which operates under the theme “Think” has organised a mass tribal wedding in the Valsad district of Gujarat under the patronage of Rakesh Sharma, Managing Director and Rakesh Kumar Garg, Chairman of the NGO.
The 1,121 tribal couples from Valsad district will tie the knot under one roof on Saturday, 2 April. The couples belong to very poor tribal communities of Gujarat and have been selected with the help of the local administration.
The NGO will bear the expenses of the wedding as well as provide them with all household items, like beds, almirahs, the wedding attires, bicycles and other things as their wedding gift.
The mass wedding is expected to see a gathering of 40,000, including the parents, relatives and friends of the brides and the grooms.
The event would also be graced by several dignitaries from the political class of Gujarat and the rest of the country. The chief guest of the event is Parshottam Rupala, Member of Parliament from Gujarat and the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly, Ganapat Bhai Vasva, is also to be present to witness the mass wedding.
“There are millions who are not as lucky as we are and are even struggling to smile. We are trying to reach them and bring some quality of change in them so that even they can taste happiness.” Sharma said.
The organisation is also attempting to enter the Guinness Book of World Records through this event, as this would perhaps be one of the largest mass weddings ever organised.
