India Eye International Human Rights Observer (IHRO) in collaboration with UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan is organising an event on Sunday to mark the World Environment Day at the India Islamic Cultural Centre in Delhi, under the theme, “Our Environment: Challenges and Responsibilities”.
The event will be attended by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu along with eminent environmentalists. Sunita Narain, director of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) will be awarded a lifetime achievement award, which will be followed by a panel discussion with the eminent environmentalist.
Rakesh Sharma, Managing Director, India Eye IHRO said, “On this World Environment Day, when we complete 44 years this year, it is time to look back and see what we have actually done all these years to the resolution passed in 1972 apart from just holding discussion and debates.” IHRO will also be felicitating 32 children out of the 10,000 participants who participated in various competitions across the country. Ernst and Young (Gurgaon), ITC Maurya (Delhi) and Gaur City (Noida) will be awarded with the most eco-friendly corporate, hotel and housing complex respectively. “On this day we should all pledge to make planet Earth a better place to live for us and for the generations to come,” he added.
