VIBRANT GUJARAT CATAPULTS STATE INTO GLOBAL INVESTMENT HIGH CLUB

NewsVIBRANT GUJARAT CATAPULTS STATE INTO GLOBAL INVESTMENT HIGH CLUB
The Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which started in 2003 to rekindle the pace of investments in the state, has since established itself as one of the most important international business events in the country. Vibrant Gujarat Summit is an example of the visionary approach of the Government of Gujarat towards inclusive and sustainable development by ensuring policy coherence and effective investment promotion. Far from the regional investment fair that characterised the first summit in 2003, the biennial summit has today become a unique forum for idea exchange, knowledge sharing, networking, exploring business opportunities, signing cooperation agreements and partnerships, while setting the policy agenda to meet some of the current global challenges.
The 7th Vibrant Gujarat Summit took place between 11-13 January 2015 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. Six summits held so far have been a resounding success and immensely contributed to the transformation of Gujarat into a “Global Business Hub”. The prime focus of the Government of Gujarat is inclusive development and the key areas for development identified include: Innovation, Sustainability, Youth & Skill Development, Knowledge Sharing and Networking. This Summit is an ideal platform for other states and countries to showcase their strengths, highlight business opportunities, facilitate knowledge dissemination etc.
Apart from the Summit, Vibrant Gujarat is also known for the Trade Show. Every year, more than 2,000 companies participate in this exhibition, and the expected numbers of visitors this year is over one million.
Preparations for the 7th Vibrant Gujarat Summit were started well ahead by the Government of Gujarat after the Vibrant Gujarat 2013 Summit’s resounding success. The last summit had given an example of the visionary approach of the Government of Gujarat towards inclusive and sustainable development. The sixth edition of the summit provided enormous prospects to the state to display its strengths, progressive stand, initiatives taken to improve governance, investor-friendly climate and art and culture of Gujarat.
Six summits held so far have been a resounding success that immensely contributed to the transformation of Gujarat into a “Global Business Hub”. The brand “Vibrant Gujarat” that began as an “investors’ summit” has now evolved into an ideal platform for knowledge sharing, social and business transformation. The Summit gradually evolved into a round-the-year investment promotion exercise with events scheduled well in advance of the main summit in 2015.
Having successfully organised seven constructive summits, the Government of Gujarat, as part of its journey towards sustainable long-term growth and inclusive development, is organising the 8th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit from 10-13 January 2017 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. The central focus of the 8th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit is “Sustainable Economic and Social Development”. The Summit will bring together Heads of States of governments, ministers, leaders from the corporate world, senior policy makers, heads of international institutions and academia from around the world to further the cause of development and promote cooperation.
The president of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rohit J. Patel, said, “I feel that Vibrant Gujarat was one of the most challenging and dynamic moves. This was a major marketing initiative to attract investments into the state. When Modi became the Prime Minister, he took some major decisions. He stressed on ease of doing business. Subsequently, in September 2014, he came up with the ‘Make in India’ mantra. It implies that ‘ease of doing business’ is a must to make ‘Make in India’ a reality. If we continue with the same bureaucracy and approach, I am afraid we would not be able to make much progress”.
The objectives of this summit is to strengthen the foundation for Gujarat to become economically and socially the most developed state in India by 2030, at par with the best in the developing world. The other objective is to leverage Gujarat’s manufacturing leadership in the country and its economic strength, to connect the global investors with India and the state, as well as to attract the brightest minds from across the world to ideate, showcase innovation and best practices, and discuss their application to the state and the nation.
This time, the focus sectors are agriculture and food business, environment, healthcare industry, bio and nano technology, renewable energy, skill ecosystem, sustainable development, among others.
The summit this time will be an opportunity to interact with key policy makers, industry leaders, global thought leaders, regulators and renowned academicians from all over the world. It will also be an opportunity to witness coherent deliberations between sector experts and global luminaries in an array of knowledge seminars during the summit to comprehend evolving global sectoral trends.  The latest summit will be a platform for SMEs to connect globally with potential partners to explore opportunities of collaboration and partnership, as well as an opportunity for networking forums to foster interaction between stakeholders through B2B and B2G meetings. It will be an exhibition spread over 1,25,000 sq.mts with exclusive demo sessions showcasing the latest trends and technology, products and services across sectors.
